On our first full week back at school with both our teachers we did a reading activity where Miss gave us lots of pictures and some paragraphs of writing. With our buddy we had to put them into an order that made sense.
First the year 5's did this, then later our year 4's.
After checking we all had the same order, our year 5's starting pulling out the main idea from each picture/corresponding paragraph. Here are our first 8. The main idea is the most important part of the paragraph, we tried to only use one sentence for each.
Next our year 4's gave it a go.
Even if we all got a different order, we learnt some valuable skills such as creating links between pictures (Norman said "well Tangaroa is in this picture and this picture, so they might go one after each other") and looking for connections between the pictures and words.
For example lots of students noticed one of the pictures had a lizard in it, and one of the paragraphs had the word reptiles in it, so students could assume these went together.
